Roundups
From your neighbor's kids to impressing your boss, we've got you covered.
By Hollis 11/22/21
This one we're going to keep short and sweet because Black Friday (on Tuesday) is upon us, folks! We thought it would be helpful to brainstorm a list of people that make it onto the shopping list but are a little further down in the to-shop-for order than say, your own kids. These peeps are important to you, you want to show your love and appreciation, but can be tricky when it comes to hitting just the right note. Maybe you know their daughter is a toddler but not sure if she wears a 2T. Or that their son is in baseball because of that picture on their desk but was that last spring? Or 3 years ago? We're here to save you a long night of Insta-stalking with this line up of impressive books that cover a wide range of interests and sentiments. Hopefully, you're able to knock out the rest of your list so you can move on to more important things like finishing the Halloween candy and bingeing the winter finales.
REMINDER: If you don't already subscribe to our emails, head to thesite and take care of that ASAP. It's how you gain access to early Black Friday deals starting tonight at 7pm EST!
1. For Your Adorable Neighbor Family: Baking Class: 50 Fun Recipes Kids Will Love to Bake!
This colorful and energetic children's cookbook is filled with step-by-step photos and fun recipes like Zombie Zucchini Bread, and Peachy Keen Crumble. It's suitable for a wide range of ages and even comes with bonus goodies like stickers, recipe cards, and pop-out gift tags. Let's be real, this gift gives back because you'll probably be the lucky recipient of a few of their creations.
2. For Your Kid's Best Friend: Unicorn (and Horse) or Walk This Wild World
Two books that are consistent hits with kids. Unicorn is a dry, hilarious story that, "teaches an important lesson about envy, individuality and the overriding power of friendship." Walk This Wild World is a fascinating and sturdy lift-the-flap book about animals and their habitats around the world.
3. For Your Godchild: The Gilded Wonders Trio
This is a series that owners will pass down to future kids. The books are big and beautiful with gilded, fabric covers, edge painting, ribbon bookmarks, and bold illustrations. Each book tackles a different science subject: Intriguing Animals, Wonders of Nature, and Mysteries of the Universe so everyone will find something interesting to learn about. Even better, each spread strikes a great balance of fun facts in bite sized chunks just long enough to keep kids engaged without getting bored.
4. For the Family Bitten by the Travel Bug: This is the World
It's been a weird couple years for travel and I viscerally miss the days when I didn't have to double check testing requirements as I dream-plan a foreign vacation. For a family that's been homebound for too long, consider this big, classic travel book for some armchair exploring. "From Notre Dame in Paris to a trolley car in the hills of San Francisco, with stops for sausages in Munich and a yacht race in Sydney, this book takes children and adults alike on a whirlwind trip to some of the world’s greatest destinations."
5. The Best Early Grandparent Gift: How Winston Delivered Christmas
Yes, I talked about Winston in our Holiday Roundup but it deserves a second mention because if you buy now you'll get it with plenty of time left to enjoy its Advent set up of a chapter a night for 24 nights and a half chapter on day 25. If your anything like my kid's Gigi, you just can't resist a little gifty in advance of the big day and this is a great one.
6. If You're Looking to Seriously Impress Your Boss: The Story Orchestra: The Four Seasons or Tony T-Rex's Family Album
I feel like it's one thing to gift an adult and it's next level to gift their kids. As adults get adult-ier, you can only get so many candles or tiny basketball hoops before you run out of countertops and doors to put them on. It's obviously nice to be remembered but sometimes those basic, last minute gifts can feel...basic and last minute. That's why I am always SO TOUCHED when someone remembers and considers my kids over me. In cases where this is appropriate, I ask you to consider a thoughtful, educational, and charming gift like the lovely, musical book Four Seasons featuring the Vivaldi score or the clever Tony for little dino fans of which there are MANY.
7. For the Daughter of Your Feminist Best Friend: She Spoke: 14 Women Who Raised Their Voices and Changed the World
With the touch of a button readers can HEAR the actual voices of inspiring women like Dr. Maya Angelou, Dr. Jane Goodall, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Tammy Duckworth, and Malala Yousafzai. This book is dense with information and inspiration. Mom and daughter will love connecting to the many groundbreaking women through their own words in their own voices.
8. For All The Holiday Events: Mr. Boddington's Studio: 'Twas the Night Before Christmas
Ok, so you have to pre-order this to ship on or around the 30th but it'll be worth it for this stylish revamp of the classic holiday poem. The fresh color palette and scritchy illustrations make it a lovely gift for adults. We LOVE the idea of pairing this with a bottle of wine, some homemade cookies, or a box of truffles for a charming and considerate hostess gift.
9. A Great Gift for the Whole Family: 3 or 6 Month Club Hullabaloo Subscription
Books! Fun and educational activities! Something to do on the weekends when the weather gets crummy! Great for ages 3-8, our boxes are built around our Amazing Attributes, seasons, and holidays. Order by 12/10 and you'll start the subscription in December so the box can go right under the tree. Upgrade and we'll add a sweet, coordinated board book to your box for baby bro to chew on.
We've had so much fun compiling these roundups for you and hope you've found them helpful and inspirational as you start your shopping season. If you have any questions, feel free to email help@hullabaloobookco.com and we'll be right there for you. Season's Readings from the Hullabaloo Crew!
