New Books on the Site: Holiday Edition

Kick the season off right with new festive favorites.

By Hollis  11/17/22

Ding dong! It's new books knocking at your door! After two years of sluggish publishing and shipping seasons, it feels like things are finally moving again. That means we have some new (and new to us) books on the site that we are so excited about. We're starting with holiday books today because there's nothing we love more than breaking out a new holiday book over Thanksgiving weekend and reading it alllllllll season long. We hope you find one to love for years to come!

1. Mr. Boddington's Studio: T'was the Night Before Christmas

Ok, technically we sold this book last year but it sold out so fast everywhere that not everyone got to enjoy it.  This classic poem got a fresh makeover thanks to the creative geniuses over at Mr Boddington's Studio. This book is so cute we had adults fawning over it just as much as the kids.

2. How Winston Came Home for Christmas

This sweet sequel to the HUGELY popular How Winston Delivered Christmas is just as wonderful as its predecessor. A book told in 24 1/2 chapters, you read one a night starting on December 1st leading up to Christmas Eve. There are also fun crafts and activities at the end of each chapter to really take the spirit of Christmas up a notch. Order in time for it to arrive before December 1st to get the full experience.

3. Press Out & Color: Christmas Ornaments

We love the folks over at Nosy Crow. They're a British publishing group that puts out really high quality books.and their activity collection never disappoints. This one features press out ornaments that you can color, slide together, add ribbon, and hang on your tree! This one is fun for kids but I might sneak it away and create perfectly beautiful ornaments all by myself because I have quality control issues,

3. Mouse's Night Before Christmas

When Santa arrives, lost in a blizzard and called by Mouse’s wish, it’s Mouse who is there to show Santa the way. Together they embark on a magical sleigh ride, delivering presents all around town. But the best present of all is for Mouse: his wish to make a new friend to share Christmas Day with has finally come true. SOBS INTO THE PAGES, KIDS THINK I'VE LOST IT.

4. The Magical Christmas Store

We're in a very I WANT THIS I WANT THAT phase with the kids right now and we all know that the constant barrage of commercials, Target end caps, and holiday catalogues do not help. We love this book for its magical message about finding the perfect gift FOR SOMEONE ELSE. but also the most important gifts that money can’t buy.

5. The Lights That Dance in the Night

If you're looking for a book that you can enjoy year round but still feels appropriately wintery and magical, Mr Zommer is always a great author to turn to. He's the talent behind The Tree That’s Meant to Be, The Big Book of Blooms, The Street Beneath My Feet and The Skies Above My Eyes and MANY more. He uses color and illustration in a way that turns these STEM-based books into works of art. The Lights That Dance in the Night explores the northern lights and how they bring wonder and joy to all the creatures who bask in their mysterious glow. We love it so much that SPOILER ALERT: we're sending this beauty in our December Club Hullabaloo box.

6. The 12 Days of Christmas by Emma Randall

Some stories just need a place on your shelf because they're nostalgic and timeless and because they're beloved carols. Randall's style feels charmingly classic while also strikingly contemporary, making this particular partridge in a pear tree the perfect one for the modern reader. (Read: This is a great hostess gift.)

6. The Twelve Days of Christmas: A Peek-through Picture Book

Why yes, we do have two 12 Days books this year! While the one above is great for adults and kids, this one is just for the Littles. This innovative and interactive picture book has gifts appearing through cleverly placed peek-through holes on each page as if by magic.

8. Christmas Street Lift the Flap

If you've had the pleasure of reading the precious rhyming book Alphabet Street, then you know that these books gets so much right. They're big, sturdy, colorful, engaging, AND the pages unfold to reveal a magical scene that encourages imaginative play beyond the story. It's many gifts in one!

7. And More!

We've rounded up even more new books for the littlest readers that are sure to make your season even more festive. In addition to Christmas-y hits like Step Into The Nutcracker, we have two new Hanukkah cuties: D is for Dreidel and You're My Little Latke. The selection is SLIM PICKINGS for Kwanzaa books but we think the story behind Li'l Rabbit's Kwanzaa is super sweet. (Publishers, let's do better, yes? More holiday books featuring people of color and celebrations beyond Christmas, PLEASE.)

This is only a taste of our beautiful holiday selection this year! Check out more festive finds HERE. And you can read about more holiday books HERE. We'll be back with looks at books for adults and new additions to our Tiny, Little and Big Collections!
